We are a little over one week away from the start of the Demcratic Party’s national convention. Here are some notes on what to expect.
The California Democratic Party (CADEM) has been holding some training/information sessions for the last two months. These sessions have included some delegation members who have attended conventions in the past. They have been very useful, as are virtually all trainings provided by CADEM. Here’s some of what I have learned.
Mornings
The convention business days will begin at 7 AM with a delegation breakfast. This is provided for members of the California delegation and will include guest speakers to inform and inspire. We will also receive the day’s credential so that we can particpate in the rest of the day’s business and attend the evening session.
Day’s business
The day’s session will include meetings if various caucuses. I will be attending the Hispanic, Rural, and Veterans caucus meetings (these are the ones I usually attend at CADEM conventions and executive board meetings.
Evenings

Late afternoon and evening sessions will take place each evening at the United Center. This is where the ceremonial roll call will take place to nominate Kamala Harris for President and Tim Walz as the Vice President. The last part of these sessions are what you normally see on television.
Late evening events and festivities begin at 10 PM. I am not sure if I will attend many/any of these other than the California Bash on Wednesday evening.
Protests
You are probably aware that there are many groups planning protests at the convention. Our party is home to people from many backgrounds and groups. We encourage them to make their ideas heard in a peaceful, respectful way.

The war in Gaza is likely to be in the forefront of these protests. Many Democrats are in support of the Palestinian people who are caught in the corssfire of war.
Safety is of concern. We don’t want conventioneers or protesters to get hurt.
My return
I will try to take photographs and selfies along the way. I will be posting as often as possible to my Twitter/X account (@dadkind). Please follow me there!
Once I return, I will add a photo album to this site and post my photos here.
