There are two main ways that you can particpate in the upcoming California Democratic Party (CADEM or CDP) 2025 Assembly District Election Meeting (ADEM) elections: as a voter or as a candidate.
Be a voter
To be a voter in this upcoming election, you must:
- Be a registered Democrat in the Assembly district in which you plan to vote.
- Register with CADEM to receive a ballot and to allow CADEM to validate your eligibility to particpate in this election.
There are three (3) type of voters:
- Registered for Online voting
- Registered and verified for in-person voting
- Registered but NOT verified for in-person voting
From the CADEM website:
The Registration Form for Online Voting will open January 6, 2025 at 12:00 PM and close January 24, 2025.
The In-Person Voter Registration Form will open January 6, 2025 at 12:00 PM and close February 23, 2025 at 6 PM.
Be a candidate

The 2025 Candidate Registration Filing Period will open on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Noon and close on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Noon.
To be a candidate in the upcoming ADEM election, you must:
- File their application to the CDP during a filing period that starts 60 days prior to the first ADEM and ends 30 days later
- Pay a $40 filing fee to CDP (hardship waiver available)
- Be registered to vote as a Democrat in the Assembly District in which they are applying to run
- Does not need to be present to win
At the time of registration, you will be asked to provide First/Last name, current residence address, and date of birth. This information will be used to verify your eligibility to run as a candidate in this election.
